This blog was set up by Heather Rayburn to post information about the effort by Tim Moffitt to seize the local water system. After learning more about Tim Moffitt, his affiliations, and his ugly public policy moves, she decided to change the focus of this blog to report her findings before the November 2012 election. Heather does not post anonymously and is only responsible for this blog.
Heather is a native of Buncombe County and a graduate of North Buncombe High, UNCA (undergraduate), and the University of Tennessee (Master’s). She has worked as a reporter for the Asheville Citizen-Times, as a freelance writer, and currently works at a local non-profit. Heather endorses Jane Whilden for N.C. House for District 116. Original description for this blog:
There are actually two separate but related issues that Moffitt’s study committee is examining: 1) whether to have the General Assembly seize our water system and give it to an unelected body — either the Metropolitan Sewage District (MSD) — or a completely new authority and 2) having Henderson County merge with MSD. You can read all about both these issue on this website.
Bottom-line: Local control of local resources is a non-partisan value that is shared by the people who have packed two forums as well as the only hearing Moffitt’s committee has held in Asheville.
